Malone Lam, a citizen of Singapore who operated under aliases including “Anne Hathaway,” and his accomplice, Jeandiel Serrano, who went by “VersaceGod,” were arrested by the F.B.I. on Wednesday September 18, 2024.
According to federal prosecutors, these two men were charged with stealing $230 million worth of cryptocurrency that they used to go on a lavish spending spree in Los Angeles and Miami before they were caught.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia, these guys, Malone Lam, 20, and Jeandiel Serrano, 21, reportedly conspired in September to steal and launder the cryptocurrency funds from a person in Washington, D.C.
The men went on their spending spree after disguising their theft by spreading the money between several cryptocurrency exchanges and mixing services, The authorities stated.
In an indictment unsealed on Thursday, Mr. Lam and Mr. Serrano were charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud and money laundering.
An indictment is merely an allegation and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
While these guys’ innocence may be proven, they have been suspected of a very big crime and these might be their last days as free men and there’s high possibility of them becoming cons very soon.
